Who caused the Budget deficits? Bush or Obama

Any budget experts out there that can refute the following quote? The Washington Post babbled again today about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush, blah blah blah.  Amazingly enough, a lot of people swallow this nonsense.  So once more, I'll try a short civics lesson. Budgets do not come from the White House.   They come from Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party.  They controlled the budget process for FY 2008 and FY 2009, as well as FY 2010 and FY 2011.  In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.  For FY 2009, though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government   running until Barack Obama could take office.  At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets. And where was Barack Obama during this time?  He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete FY 2009.  Let's remember what the deficits   looked like during that period: If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets.  That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending.  After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.  If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th. WAKE UP,  AMERICA, BEFORE ITS TO LATE There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on! This is your chance to make a difference.

This link will take you to another sad tale exposing the way Congress does its business. Unfortunately both parties have engaged in this sort of shenanigan over many years to the detriment of our country but never have the stakes been as high as they are on Obamacare. We are already encumbered by a massive unfunded liability for Medicare and it will only get worse. There are many problems with the current system. Reform is needed but the plan being muscled through Congress is a disaster. We can only hope that love of country and pressure from irate consituents will move a sufficient number of elected officials to block the arrogant misuse of power that the Obama administration and some elected officials in Congress are displaying.

MA Senate Race- New Poll, Brown Leads « Liveshots

As the whole world looks on at the horror unfolding in Haiti many may be too distracted to pay enough attention to the Massachusetts senate race;  Massachusetts has always been a progressive state with many independents and they hold the key to defeating this awful health care bill. Health care does need to be reformed and many good ideas have been bruited by politicians on both sides but the shameless trickery  now taking place is not the way. Such important legislation must have bi-partisan support and that has not been sought in any reasonable way. The old saying "power corrupts......" comes to mind. The following report gives me some hope that the patriotic citizens of Massachusetts will once again cast a deciding vote for the good our wonderful republic.

The Democrats in Washington are exulting in their historic moment when they gave us all coal in our stockings as a Christmas present. It was historic, all right, like Pearl Harbor day, Hurricane Katrina, and the day Bernie Madoff came up with his Ponzi scheme were historic. In that they were telling the truth; in all the rest they were lying to us and perhaps to themselves.

The liars claimed the health care bill would save us money - only true if you live in Nebraska. The prevaricators said it would improve care; tell me how this can be true when millions more will show up for treatment in a system that already has a shortage of doctors and nurses.

Bring all involved in case to justice

I was astounded to read in the Aiken Standard today that the case of Ginny Allen, who has admitted her involvement in an election scam involving Senator Ryberg, Jason Whinghter, Tom Young and Scott Singer, was being handled in a pretrial intervention process. This matter has been under investigation for more than a year. The idea that Ginny Allen might be let off with an apology letter and some minor community service is unacceptable, unless she has cooperated fully with the investigators and named her co-conspirators. If so, their names must be revealed and they too must be charged.


The letter below from Dick Smith was published in the Aiken Standard on Dec. 18, 2008, and is included herein as it laid out the facts right after this event occurred. It appears to me that the political system might be protecting its own by letting Ginny take a cushioned fall for the more powerful culprits. Citizens are sick and tired of the games that politicians play, and there must be transparency in government. We have made some progress in Aiken but there still is a long way to go. If we are outraged by the duplicity of politicians in Washington, then we must address corruption in our own backyard. If he has not already done so the County Solicitor should demand the names from Ginny and publicly charge all the culprits so that some faith in government can be restored.

“Who was hurt by election calls?

“With reference to the editorial concerning election law violations I agree completely that “it is time that laws dealing with election mischief are dealt with as felonies.” However, I most emphatically disagree with your statement that the “intended result of the election-eve deception was not realized.” Except for Ginny Allen and her-up-till-now undisclosed co-conspirators none of us can know for sure what the intended result was. It should be quite clear to the objective observer that the only person hurt by this reprehensible ploy was Scott Singer. Certainly there was no chance it would in any way affect the outcome of the Whinghter-Ryberg race since the polls showed Ryberg with more than 70 percent of the voters backing him. Ginny Allen, as an astute political operative, certainly knew that a last-minute attempt to hurt Senator Ryberg would be a waste of time and money.

“The facts are that Senator Ryberg, upon learning about the fraudulent calls, immediately issued an angry statement denying any responsibility for them and denied supporting any candidate. Senator Ryberg also requested SLED to investigate. As a consequence of this angry statement many voters may have assumed that Scott Singer had sponsored the calls. To correct this misapprehension Senator Ryberg issued another statement on June 12, wherein he “declared his belief that the other candidate for office mentioned in the illegal call, County Councilman Scott Singer, was not involved in the phone call.” For some reason this statement was never published in the Aiken Standard. Meanwhile critics used this spurious charge to cut into Singer’s well deserved good reputation and high favorability ratings.

“I for one am glad SLED has investigated and is continuing to investigate this matter. Let us wait until all the facts are in before we rush to judgment as to the effectiveness of the calls. – Dick Smith”

It is obvious the only candidate who could have been hurt by this illegal act was Scott Singer, and the only one who could have benefited was Tom Young. Since Tom Young denies any involvement we should take him at his word, but it is entirely possible that without his knowledge one or more of his supporters worked with Ginny. It is interesting to note that Ginny’s letter of apology only explicitly absolves Senator Ryberg. Aiken’s citizens deserve to know the truth.

So now after a year, the citizens and voters of Aiken need to know the facts of this case and be assured that “business as usual” politics will no longer be tolerated in Aiken.

When regular citizen "Joe the Plumber" asked an innocent, heartfelt, but challenging question of presidential candidate Barack Obama last year, he ended up getting skewered by the "mainstream" media. Every detail of his past was looked at for possible motives and nefarious associations.

Democratic state officials in Ohio even thumbed through his records illegally to find dirt on him.
That somehow doesn't happen with liberals.
A woman at Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee's town hall meeting in Texas recently claimed to be a pediatrician and stood up to support Jackson-Lee and Obamacare. She even got a hug from the congresswoman, which the Houston Chronicle featured prominently.
One big problem. Well, several, really.
Turns out the woman isn't a doctor after all. Reports indicate she's a graduate social work student who just happens to be enrolled at the same university where Jackson-Lee's husband is vice president for Student Affairs.
In addition, the woman is said to be an Obama organizer who, by the way, seems not to be a constituent of Jackson-Lee's.
Democrats have cynically and hurtfully accused passionate Americans at town halls as being stooges of special interest and such. In truth, Democrats have been the ones sending people to the meetings.
We asked Augusta-area Congressman Paul Broun's office if they'd seen any signs of Obamacare opponents who were tools of special interests. No, they told us -- but they've seen suspicious signs of Democratic manipulation: One day after Democratic officials called to confirm Congressman Broun's contact information, proponents of reform started calling and showing up at the office.
If any of them claimed to be a doctor, we hope Broun's office double-checked it.

New York Times Finally Admits It Spiked Obama/ACORN Corruption Story

Acknowledging what the blogosphere has known for weeks, the New York Times finally went on record to admit that just before last Election Day it killed a politically sensitive news story involving corruption allegations that might have made the Obama campaign look bad.
But the admission on Sunday, which came seven months after NYT staff reporter Stephanie Strom's reporting about possibly illegal coordination between the Obama campaign and ACORN last year, took the form of a snarky column from Clark Hoyt, the Old Gray Lady's "public editor." Hoyt used the word "nonsense" to describe the allegations of impropriety leveled against ACORN and the Obama campaign. 
Hoyt writes in the Sunday New York Times

On March 17, a Republican lawyer, quoting a confidential source for a Times reporter, testified to Congress that the newspaper killed a story last fall because it would have been "a game-changer" in the presidential election.
The charge, amplified by Bill O'Reilly on Fox News in April and reverberating around the conservative blogosphere, is about the most damning allegation that can be made against a news organization. If true, it would mean that Times editors, whose job is to report the facts without fear or favor, were so lacking in integrity that they withheld an important story in order to influence the election.
I have spent several weeks looking into this issue - interviewing and e-mailing those involved, reading transcripts, looking at campaign finance records and conferring with legal experts. In a nutshell, I think the charge is nonsense.

In his very first sentence Hoyt makes a careless mistake: it was March 19, not March 17 (St. Patrick's Day), that the "Republican lawyer," Heather Heidelbaugh, testified before the House Judiciary Committee.
Then Hoyt gets caught up in minutiae, agonizing about whether the story would have been "a game-changer in the presidential election." He downplays the illegalities, calling them "technical violations of campaign finance law."
Hoyt writes

The story involved allegations that Barack Obama's campaign, in league with Acorn, a left-leaning community activist group, was guilty of technical violations of campaign finance law. Evidence supplied by the source could not be verified. Even if the story had panned out, it is hard to see how any editor could have regarded it as momentous enough to change an election in which the Republicans were saddled with an unpopular war and an economic meltdown.

On the surface if one doesn't think through Hoyt's explanation carefully, it may seem quite reasonable. But spend a few minutes thinking about it and holes begin to appear in the house ombudsman's reasoning.
A quick digression: Of course, we can only wonder what the New York Times would have done if it had gained information that John McCain's campaign had committed technical violations of campaign finance law. The NYT did publish a blog item about the DNC's allegation that McCain's campaign had illegally procured a loan and the paper was only too willing to imply in a Feb. 21, 2008 story that McCain was having a romantic affair with a female lobbyist three decades his junior. The charge, which was based on information provided by anonymous sources supposedly working for McCain, ultimately proved groundless and the newspaper retracted it a year later. The NYT disingenuously claims that it had never intended to suggest that the lobbyist "had engaged in a romantic affair with Senator McCain."
The aborted story that gave rise to the Obama/ACORN controversy centers around information provided by Anita MonCrief, a former ACORN employee whom Hoyt acknowledges "fed information to Stephanie Strom of The Times for several articles on troubles within the group." Apparently the information MonCrief provided was good.
We know this because Strom broke a number of important stories about ACORN and surely much of the information she used came from her trusted source Anita MonCrief. In July she reported that Dale Rathke, brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke, embezzled nearly $1 million from the group. She also reported that ACORN management covered up the embezzlement for eight years, withholding information even from ACORN's national board. 
The next month Strom reported that Tides Foundation founder Drummond Pike, a comrade-in-arms of liberal philanthropist George Soros, had personally covered what remained of Wade Rathke's debt (the embezzler had agreed to a slow-as-molasses repayment plan that would have kept him in debt well into old age).
In September Strom reported on two ACORN national board members' lawsuit aimed at forcing ACORN to provide financial documents regarding the embezzlement.
She followed up the next month with a story on ACORN's efforts to sever its remaining ties with its founder. (Strom reported that Wade Rathke resigned as chief organizer of ACORN. In fact, Rathke was fired, as shown in the ACORN national board's minutes of June 20, 2008, available at page 11 of the linked PDF file.)
The same month Strom wrote about an internal memo written by ACORN's lawyer that alerted the group to potential legal problems related to its organizational structure.
But apparently MonCrief's information was suddenly no good when it might have embarrassed the Obama campaign.
Heidelbaugh testified before a congressional committee in March that the nonprofit group violated a host of tax, campaign finance, and other laws. She said the Obama campaign sent ACORN its "maxed out donor list" and asked two of the avowedly nonpartisan group's employees "to reach out to the maxed out donors and solicit donations from them for Get Out the Vote efforts to be run by ACORN."
Hoyt describes the interactions between ACORN and Democratic campaigns this way:

On Sept. 7, Moncrief wrote to Strom that she had donor lists from the campaigns of Obama and Hillary Clinton and that there had been "constant contact" between the campaigns and Project Vote, an Acorn affiliate whose tax-exempt status forbids it to engage in partisan politics. Moncrief said she had withheld that information earlier but was disclosing it now that the conservative columnist Michelle Malkin was "all over it."

Hoyt writes that Strom received from MonCrief "a spreadsheet purporting to be the Obama donor list, but there was no on-the-record source or other way to verify that the list came from the Obama campaign." MonCrief agreed to go on the record but the NYT suddenly discovered that she had "a credibility problem" because she "had been fired by Acorn for using an official credit card for personal expenses."
To repeat, although the newspaper knew of the supposed credibility problem, it found MonCrief's information highly reliable in previous ACORN articles. All of sudden MonCrief was deemed not credible on a story that might have an adverse impact on Obama's candidacy.
Hoyt wrote that Suzanne Daley, the national editor, "called a halt to Strom's pursuit of the Obama angle."
Hoyt then presents an expert opinion about how, even if true, MonCrief's allegations would not have been a game-changer for the election.
But PowerLine's John Hinderaker skillfully dissects Hoyt's sophistry, writing:

Hoyt also argues that the story about Obama and ACORN would not have been a "game-changer" in that it would not have swung the election to John McCain. I agree. But since when is that the standard? Is Hoyt telling us that the Times' policy is only to print stories that have the potential to change the result of a Presidential election? Of course, if the story did have the potential to change the outcome of the election, that, too, would have been offered as a reason not to print it.

Hinderaker also argues that "the facts as related by Hoyt don't rebut the charge; they support it."

John Kerry to the Rescue

Senator John Kerry has called for Senate hearings on the death of newspapers. The possible closiing of the very liberal Boston Globe which reportedly  is losing a Million dollars a day has raised his concern. The Boston Globe is owned by the extremely biased New York Times which is also going broke. The NEWSMAX article reporting on this subject contains some good information. There has been talk in congress of saving papers by giving them tax free status.This would be ridiculous. The taxpayers have been supporting the Public Broadcasting System and National Public Radio for many years and their liberal bias is painfully obvious.
